There is so much in life over which we have no control. In truth, no matter how responsible we are, and how well we care for ourselves and our families, life will rear up to challenge us from time to time.
During these times of crisis we are best served by remembering that no mater how dire the situation, the way we attend to it will either increase or decrease our suffering.
I may have little or no control over what’s happening, but I can choose how I respond to it.
And if we come forward with even a semblance of grace or the mere intention of equanimity, we will be better able to handle what we must.
Practicing these mindful attention skills will in time transform me into the kind of person who becomes the calm in any given storm.
